Advent Art

We’re loving the Christmassy feel around Cardiff and with the temperatures dropping it’s time everyone else started feeling the Christmas spirit too! Alongside our Handmade Christmas Campaign, we’ve obviously made our Christmas a very Handmade one indeed. We’ve been busy making lots of little bits for the shop and we decided every shop needs an advent calendar!
Rolling with our very ‘natural’ Christmas theme, we’ve stuck to hessian, lace, cinnamon and flowers. The natural brown and cream colors aren’t necessarily associated with Christmas, but I think that’s what makes it look so special!

We covered a board with hessian, popped it in a vintage frame and strung some lovely vintage lace across. Each tag has been pegged onto the lace, individually done with numbers on the back ready to turn around each day!
Hope you like it! Would love to see your advent calendars this Christmas, who opts for something a little different (and less sugary!)?

Christmas at the Cupboard

In our little store, we can’t do anything but go all out and I’ve been SUPER excited about getting it all ready for the holiday season!
We have been running our ‘Handmade Christmas Campaign’ for about 2 weeks now, getting everyone involved and supporting the handmade scene in Cardiff as well as the wonderful charity Ty Hafan! So we decided to handmake our windows and pretty much all of our amazing decorations (except the lights - not sure I’d trust myself making the fairy lights!)
So here it is, our beautiful little store in all it’s Christmas glory!

Our windows are full of handmade snowflake decorations cut from your standard A4 white paper and some music paper mixed in! Also our pinwheels decoration add an amazing background to the display, I will be submitting my tutorial for them to the handmade Christmas campaign very soon! We have also made some super cute mini ones for the tree to sell in aid of Ty Hafan.
As well as these, we’ve adorned some re-cycled glass jars (anything from the fridge will do!) with hessian and lace to put in the front of the window with flickering (not real) tea lights!
I’m also in love with our vintage doily bunting and twig decoration over the counter! It looks amazing suspended with some beautiful decorations hanging from it.
I can’t wait for Amy Davies of ‘The Cardiff Arcade’s project to come back in and take some amazing photo’s.. Mine don’t quite do it justice!

Vintage Wedding

As what we do is such a niche market, we have a lot of interest in our lovely wedding collection. I make all my dresses bespoke to each person, designing and making around them and their vision for their big day!
With such a large interest, I decided to design a small collection of dresses - customizable to suit your style and made to measure! Check out the prototype on the wonderful Lauren.

Each dress can be made individual to you, you can choose your sleeve length or have no sleeves what so ever! Choose whether you want polka dot tulle, lace or an all over satin, if you want the sleeves and top see-through or covering you up, choose your length and sash style, all from as little as £650.
Each dress is made from a true vintage pattern, adapted to your style meaning you get the fit and quality of a true vintage dress with the whole process being easy and suited to you!
What more could you ask for? Honestly!!

Get what you really want this Christmas… Purchase here or in store :)

Hello Blog!

I know I keep complaining about never posting anymore, and I’m going to complain some more!
It’s been a super busy few months and I’m struggling to find time to do anything, but today after a lovely trip to Worcester Flea Market and a detour to Baileys homestore on the way back, I’m feeling more inspired (and Christmassy) than ever!
If you haven’t heard of Bailey’s - you need to check it out!
It’s quite easily the most amazing collection of handmade, ethical and vintage products in one AMAZING barn conversion. Despite not being able to take any photos inside, the outside gives the most amazing impression. As soon as I turned up, I already felt inspired to get the shop up to scratch!

Pre-Christmas resolution - lots going on, BLOG IT!

Lace & Collars

Aloha,
We took a trip to the lovely town of Frome today to visit the first Vintage Rag Market in the Cheese and Grain hall and it was fantastic! We picked up some wonderful bits and bobs to get making and its really inspired us to crack on with it!
In particular, we spent double our budget on scraps of vintage lace (yes double) and I could have spent 10x that quite easily! With only around 15 stalls it still took us a little over 3 hours to rummage through the piles of goodies people had to offer at their discounted prices.
I spoke a while ago about our eventual attempt to get round to a bit of Miu Miu D.I.Y, and today having found a nice little lot of vintage lace and silk collars - we’re finally on that train of thought!
Here’s a few that I’ve managed to get all sewn up since we arrived home…

Lots more to come, embellished with vintage appliques, motifs and buttons - soon to be pearls, jewellery bits and bobs, fabrics, trims and peter pan collars!
Fantastic.
We’re on the case of button cards, up-cycled shorts, make your own skirt packs and loads more to be introduced to the new shop opening next month (hopefully)!
Its all go
As always

Oh Alice

We finally got around to meeting up with Alice post wedding and was so happy to hear how everything’s going!

A lot of praise for the wonderful dress which I’m so happy to have done for her, it couldn’t have looked better on anyone else! With a little one on the way and a change of house, she’s kindly let us ‘foster’ the dress for a little while so we can show it off to all!!
Here are some beautiful photos from Alice and Matths big day!

Couldn’t have been happier with the sweet card she made us either - It’s so lovely to know how happy someone is with something you’ve made them!
It’s been lovely, and we definitely cannot wait to see her and the little one in the shop very soon!
Our very own Alice in Wonderland! (Wonderdress)

A Grand Day Out…

Today was the last stall we’ve had lined up for the rest of the year! (devastating news I know) but on the plus side, we’re setting up online! Some consolation?
We turned up this morning after a 5am start from the E&W household and a 3 hour drive not knowing what to expect and apart from the weather (which did hold off) everything was amazing! Powis Castle is a beautiful place and we had a prime spot staring at it all day…

We took everything we could find from home and the shop that was red, white or blue to make a lovely rail of clothes and I finished off the Jubilympics dress just in time!

Yet another busy day ahead for the up-cycling combo… We have a dip dyed sheet ready to be transformed into King and Queen capes for the quirky Cowbridge Hub procession and then our celebrations are over.
Hope everyone’s had/has an amazing Jubilee long weekend , we saw some street parties on the way back that looked amazing but my camera had run out of battery :(

Display ‘Case’

I just couldn't resist these!! They’re from a beautiful new(ish) shop in Cowbridge, very reasonable! And perfect for a new display…
Its been a busy few weeks with us at E&W, as always, but these weeks especially! With the upcoming jubilee weekend we’ve been all out union jacking and 50’s making.
We have a lot of updates, and a website in progress that we promise we will let you all know as soon as its set in stone! Everything feels like its up in the air at the moment, and we cant wait to get back down to earth.
I'll keep you posted on the way down!

Jubilympics

As much as I am not a fan of either, I do love a good old Union jack print and as we all know with the Jubilee and Olympics fast approaching, its a major must have this year on ANYTHING! So… I made a dress.

It’s a very ‘unique’ dress, in style and fabrics, only half re-cycled and it’s a work in progress (as per usual) but it will all be finished (and revealed) at the Diamond Jubilee Festival this Monday in Powis Castle - its definitely one to attend if you love your vintage! We’re hoping to get ourselves a generator to power the sewing machine so you can get your shorts ‘Union Jacked’ while you wait!

We are also offering it in store, and at our second Jubilee event in Cowbridge on the 5th June. Join in and get upcycling!
Its a Jubilympic Jubilation, celebrating all that is British!

Pins and Needles

Don’t you just love a good productive week?!
We’ve pulled together our shorts collection for in store tomorrow! We’re also half way through the online shop… its going to look amazing!
Not only have we done all of this, there’s also 3 more dresses from the famous 50’s collection completed and ready for sale from tomorrow - the rest just need zips!

This is my favourite one - the candy stripe! Its had to have a wash thanks to a very unhelpful mutt…

We’ve got some more ideas to make some completely unique amazing shorts - all will be revealed soon! We can also up-cycle yours, bring them to us in store and get a new makeover for Summer!!
So here’s to another good week, lots to see and do tomorrow with the Book Festival in Cowbridge - we will be in the shop so come say hi!
